The RYA's International Certificate of Competence is intended to provide evidence of competence when in charge of a pleasure craft, which is a requirement in most countries.

The RYA are able to issue their ICC under the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Inland Transport Committee Working Party on Inland Water Transport Resolution 40.

Well that was a mouthful, what does it mean?

The ICC is probably the most recognised document whilst boating in the EU and this makes it easier for us to offer help to our clients in obtaining the qualification from our Sea School partners who are RYA certified.

Basically, if you are a resident of any of the following countries that have not as yet adopted Resolution 40 you can obtain an ICC from the RYA:

Albania, Andorra, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Canada, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, France, Georgia, Greece, Iceland, Israel, Italy, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Liechtenstein, Malta, Moldova, Monaco, Montenegro, Poland, Portugal, Russian Federation, San Marino, Serbia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Tajikistan, The former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, United States of America, Uzbekistan

The following countries have adopted Resolution 40 so the RYA cannot issue an ICC:
